Nutters MapPak 2
Introduction
Nutters MapPak
2 is a combination of maps and additional extras such as voice packs and
crosshairs, all combined into one convenient pack created by Bradley (Nutter)
Jones. Although most pieces have been released separately, everything dubbed
under the title Nutters MapPak 2 are finally released in this one pack for your
fragging pleasure. The mapping stops when a map for
every game type has been covered. Enjoy. : )

Installation (for the convenience of the
minority)
At the time of writing NMP2s files
are all stored in a zip file with no specific arrangement, although by the time
the pack is complete everything should be arranged so all you have to do is
extract the zip file directly to you UT2k4 folder. However, if that’s not your
situation, read on. In the UT2004 folder, you’ll notice that UT2004 is
organised into a series of sub folders, each assigned to contain different
types of UT2004 files. Eg: ‘Textures’ contains texture files, ‘StaticMeshes’
contains static mesh files. These different file types have different extensions,
texture file have the extension ‘utx’, static meshes have the extension ‘usx’,
so you can use these to determine where each file goes. The following is a
little guide on where each of these file types are
located:
·
.ukx -Animations
·
.ka -KarmaData
·
.ut2 -Maps
·
.ogg -Music
·
.uax -Sounds
·
.usx -Static Meshes
·
.u -System
·
.int -System
·
.ucl -System
·
.utx -Textures
And that’s all there is to it, just note that
Nutters MapPak 2 doesn’t utilise all of the above file types so don’t panic and
think your download stuffed up.
Network Games (Internet AND LAN)
Usually most maps don't require you to do any more than to copy the associated files to their respective folders. However, due to the fact that Panalesh (and any future maps) use new classes in the world geometry, NuttersMiscPack.u and .int are what I'm referring to here. You'll need to add this name to the UT2004.ini, and of course put it in the right place. Scroll through the
UT2004.ini file until you find a
series of lines that begin with ServerPackages="Whatever". You need
to add NuttersMiscPack to this list, hence, copy the ServerPackages= part of
one of the previous lines, paste it below the others, and then add the name of
the *.u to the end of it. If it's supposed to be the *.int file name that's
supposed to go there, I apologise in advance, but they're both the same so all
should be good.
Important: Should you decide to remove NMP2 and
hence NuttersMiscPack, don't forget to remove the ServerPackages line,
otherwise when you start a network game, the server will not begin as the
ServerPackages line still states that the referred to *.u file is still there,
even though it has been removed, and hence the server will not begin, or there
will be issues. Possibly....but my absence of a net connection doesn't really
let me test all of this fully.
Map Descriptions
Map stories are within the main
menu descriptions.
ONS-NMP2-PanaleshSE
The first edition to NMP2 and a huge
success and even a MSU finalist, Panalesh is a predominantly outdoor map set
amongst the mountains of the Kreenook Spire Mountain Range. Panalesh is twice
as long as Dria and is almost exactly 3 kilometres long. The central area which
takes up a third of the maps, is the
Bugs
Bots can be pretty
useless at times; the problem is that using too many navigation points caused
huge instabilities. Not so much a bug but more of an issue,
is the deal with the poor performance on slower machines. But even powerful
systems have some trouble, but I did find that reducing my AGP Aperture amount
from 128 to 64 actually improved performance. Bizarre but it worked.

GF-NMP2-Krystnek
This is my map for my mod teams Gem Feeder mod, it’s a snowy and bitter
cold environment set amongst the Krystnek mountains. The environments range
from ice fields and caverns, to the small fortresses that used to be the
protection for the bridges that cross the valleys, and
the wells and sewers that helped keep the inhabitants of this icy abyss alive.
Unlike Panalesh this map is only one kilometre long, but the absence of
vehicles makes this a map that really depends on a decent sense of team
coordination. The wells passage is longer than the alternate route, but it is
much safer than the open icefields, and has more weapons along the way, and the
A-Bomb is also located in the wells. Just don’t forget that Gem Feeder 2.0 or
greater is required to play this map, however if there is enough feedback on
this map, I’ll have a CTF or Bombing Run version of the map made.
To really succeed in
winning this map you need somebody to stay around the central icefield to
ensure that the two gems there come into your teams possession when all the
gems reset, you can either wait for you team mates to come and carry them off
or help you carry them back to your base, or you can leap frog them back to
your base on your own and hope somebody helps you along the way. If you plan on
placing an A-Bomb on an enemy altar, try to ensure that you get it on the
centre altar, for if there are gems on the other altars, they’ll be both taken
out if the A-Bomb goes off. When approaching the altars, be careful of enemies
in the foyer, as there are spawning chambers on each side and you could easily
get caught unawares or even in crossfire.
Bugs
Light rays in base foyers clip
walls, but it’s only a visual bug, but still looks cool. There are some small
lighting issues thanks to static meshes dodgy vertex lighting. Also there are
some issues with the falling snow effects, sometimes
it spawns in the wrong position, although I’ve done my best to get rid of these
issues, so it should be a very rare issue.

The bots on this map are
quite exceptional, they take a variety of routes and
can even catch up with flag carriers quite well. They take up defensive
positions around a variety of locations around the towers and hold off enemies
reasonably well for bots.

at points.
Emitters on towers don’t disappear unless you’re looking at them, even if
someone has left the tower top, if you’re not looking, they won’t sod off until
you do. Animated banners are a little weak but it’s my first attempt at making
an animation, and I’ve also decided animating cloth is a bitch.

Voice Pack Descriptions
Billy
Connolly
Billy Connolly is an
excentric Scottish comedian who has entertained audiences across the whole
globe, now the voice of Billy enters the arena to assist you in telling the
opposition where to shove it. This is definitely one of the best voice packs
I’ve heard to date, or at the least the most enjoyable, with over 70 sounds
worth of Mr Billy Connolly. Not all the lines are funny but they work with the
functionality of voice packs in UT2004.
Xan Classic
Xan
was UT99s Tournament champion, and now after several years of staying away from
the Tournament, he has returned, so it’s only fitting that his old voice pack
is given to him. The sound effects come directly from the classic UT99 voice
pack with no alterations.
Skaarj
A collection of Skaarj
sound effects from both Unreal 1 and Unreal 2, although this pack isn’t really
complete, although it does really suit monstrous characters like the Skaarj and
even robotic creatures.
Mutators and Xtras Descriptions
Nutters
Guns!
Nutters Guns is a simple mutator
that tweaks five of Unreal Tournament 2004’s weapons, the changed weapons
include the shock rifle, minigun, sniper rifle, lightning gun, and the rocket
launcher. They are now more beefed up and more dangerous than ever. The Classic
Lightning Gun is almost identical to the default LG, but is faster, more
powerful, and the zoomed view has been restored to what it was in the UT2003
initial release. The Cock Knocker is the shock rifles replacement, both fire
modes are now the beam fire mode, but the primary fire hurtles players hundreds
of feet away, and the alt fire yanks the target towards you. Also, the Cock
Knocker looks better when using the classic model. The Beefed Up Sniper Rifle is more powerful, faster, and has more ammo,
this is much closer to UT99s sniper. The overkill minigun has three times of
everything, speed, ammo, and accuracy. Lastly, but definitely not least, My
Rocket Launcher, the textures are now yellow instead of red, and the rockets
are faster, and excessively powerful, with all new particle effects too. This
is by far the most deadly weapon here. Go crazy. Or nuts =-).
Nutter
Crosshair Pack
This is something you
don’t see released too often, a set of all new crosshairs, currently packing
nine crosshairs, with inspiration from Half Life 2, Doom 3, UT99, and just my
own creativeness. All you need to do to apply one of my crosshairs to your HUD,
is go to the Weapons section in the options menu, and select it in the
crosshair dropdown list.

Anybody
else who advertised any NMP2 content on their sites, thankyou once again. I
salute you.
A warm and
affectionate thankyou to you all and the input you had on NMP2.
Also a
great big thankyou and a hug to all those who downloaded, received via a
friend, neighbour, pet dog or goldfish, and enjoyed any or all of the contents
of NMP2, and especially if you let me know, I love feedback! I’m so modest, but
sometimes it’s fun to be pretentious. :-) I’m especially honoured by those of
you who have asked me to join your mod teams to create content for you, I’m
sorry I’ve had to turn most of you down due to circumstances and other
commitments, but thankyou anyway!! :-)
PS: I have
been receiving e-mails from people about Panalesh and I’m really sorry I
haven’t been able to help you but there is quite a few people who have dodgy
mail servers and won’t let me mail you, which really sucks because I would have
liked to. So please don’t think I’m a snobby shit because I ain’t. And with
this read me you shouldn’t have too many actual problems with setup so that’s
one thing eliminated.
