Concept:

An LE version of CTF-Infested was requested by a few people in the online community including my fellow Online Gaming League admin Count Brass. Since players wanted to have this map in league competition in OGL and Proving Grounds, I accepted the requests and made the LE version.

Version History:

Below are the changes that differentiate Infested League Edition from the original:

1.01

  • Minigun Room Window: Increased the thickness to prevent flag drops. Don't know how I missed that the first time. Thanks to Picasso from Clan {187} for bringing this to my attention. :-)

1.00 - Public Release #1, July 20, 2001

  • No more BlockAll actors! I have removed all the block all actors and fixed the geometry so that they are not needed. I also removed the invisible collision hulls (ICHs) that prevented players from walking between the bulkheads. IMO, don't build geometry that looks like you can walk through it if you can't -- that's VERY frustrating for a player.

  • Team colors and insignia are better implemented in the bases. I overhauled the lighting schemes so that specific light fixtures now give of specific types of light (before they seemed to be eclectic). The improved contrast in the lighting also makes it easier to discern different areas of the map and gauge distances.

  • Location string names are now much more concise/ intuitive. To aid their precision, I repositioned, deleted or added many zone portals. The most noticeable area is the central corridors. Since it's nice to know which tunnel your Flag Carrier needs backup in, I made each hallway very distinct. One hallway has gold-colored lighting and wall-signs reading A1, A2 and A3 as proceeding away from the base. The other hallway has green-colored lighting with wall-signs reading B1, B2 and B3 as proceeding from the other base. Coupled with the location string changes, this makes providing support a lot easier.

  • Ammo and weaponry are no longer sunken into the floor.

  • Bot support is improved. Bots will now get the superhealth kegs (they used to translocate and miss) and the shield belts (which they used to ignore completely). I've added a couple translocator shortcuts too.

  • GES Bio Rifle: I always thought that this would have been a perfect weapon for Infested. Since it was the ONLY regular weapon that was omitted, I added the beloved goo gun under the light at the base of the stairs. Two bio packs are located between the bulkheads at the top of the stairs with one bio pack in each of the 4 alcoves off of the central hallways. Thanks to FlyingMonkey and RedBeard for giving me feedback on this fix.
