Edward Hopper 1882-1967
Famous American artist best known for his 1942 masterpiece "Nighthawks", a portrait of loneliness and isolation in a modern era. The patrons sit absorbed in their own thoughts, oblivious to each other and the world. The waiter is trapped behind a counter. The building has no door. They are remote, removed from one another and the viewer. Or maybe Eddy just liked their coffee.
In an effort to remain true to the artist, this map too has no door, (sort of), but there is a revolving glass door just out of sight. It keeps with the idea of a seamless panel of glass, while still allowing players to actually go inside the place. Besides, fire-code requires it.
The colors for this map were sampled directly from the original painting and are about as close to the real thing as possible. The green, red, yellow, white and sidewalk are Hopper's own colors.
Not much to this map, the main show piece is the diner. If you stand in just the right place it looks pretty darn close. I put 2d sheets as patrons in there for garnish, but you could replace them with a Skaarj, 2 humans and a nali, some warlords, or if you're really avant-garde a fish!
This painting has been spoofed a lot by such artists as Alex Rinesch, Gottfried Helnweir, and even the Simpsons. Now we have one that you can actually run around in.
